First edition hardback bound in original navy blue cloth with paste-down pictorial boards and gilt title to spine. Pictorial endpapers. Full colour illustrated frontispiece, additional five colour plates throughout, all on glossy paper. Line illustrations within the text. Rubbing and scuffing to binding, paste-down a little soiled but still nice and clear. Wear to spine edges and corners, gilt to spine dulled. Faded spot to lower front board, dent there to the paste-down. Pencil inscription to half title dated 1923; pencil and crayon markings by a child to half title and verso. Cracking to gutter. Plates ii and iii are detached but present. Edges of plates worn not affecting the illustration. Pages are a little toned and thumbed, occasional spotting throughout, although clean for the most part. Overall good condition. 93 pp. A well-loved and very sweet festive book, relatively scarce.
