First Edition Hard Back. Original cloth boards with printed titles in black to the spine are in excellent condition. The dust jacket with illustrated front cover shows some wear and closed tears to the extremities, small pieces missing along the base of the rear cover and to the top of the spine. The remains of a sticker to the front. Internally there is a previous owner's bookplate and neat inscription to the front free endpaper while the rest of the pages remain clean, and profusely illustrated. pp. xvi + 413. Overall a good copy. The grouse and ptarmigans comprise sixteen species distributed throughout much of the Northern Hemisphere. This is the first book to cover the entire world assemblage of these birds.
