Hard back. First edition. The clothbound front cover is generally worn and has a green pictorial illustration which remains bright despite foxing. The spine is toned, with the title very faded, and a tear down the top right corner. Internally, the front and rear illustrated pictorial end papers are a little foxed. The front end papers has a small pencil inscription from a previous owner, and the rear, a small label from a previous bookseller. There is some internal splitting in the binding. An illustration opposite the title page matching that on the cover has been neatly coloured in by a previous owner, as well as illustrations on pages 14 and 226. The text is very readable throughout. pp. 303. Overall, a lovely book with charming illustrations.
