Hardback. A New Edition, 1861, of Wilkie Collin's first published book. Bound in the publisher's original purple cloth with blind embossed detail to the boards and titles to the spine. The cloth has faded over time especially to the extremities and has split along the outer hinges. Internally the binding is weak with the text block almost split into two parts. There is a previous owner's bookplate and inscription to the front endpapers. The pages are generally clean although foxed to the prelims, vignette to the half title page. pp. vii + 420 + 16. A scarce copy.
