Through The Looking Glass And What Alice Found There First Edition

Lewis Carroll

Edition: First Edition

Illustrated By: John Tenniel

Published By: Macmillan And Co

Hardback. First Edition of this classic children's tale and sequel to Alice's Adventures Underground. Bound in the publisher's original red cloth with triple ruled gilt borders and gilt pictorial to the boards, gilt titles to the spine. All edges gilt. Beautifully illustrated by John Tenniel, who's detailed black and white drawings remain the definitive depiction of Alice's characters. A fair copy with the cloth worn especially to the spine with the remains of a label to the front. Slight lean to the spine. The text block is weak with cracking to the gutter, page's 64 to 80 partly detached. There is a previous owner's book plate to the front paste down and ink inscriptions to the verso of the front free endpaper and half title page. It is beautifully illustrated, as mentioned, however, some of these illustrations have been coloured in with the frontispiece tissue guard missing.  pp. 12 + 224 + 2. Overall a much loved copy of a children's classic.
