Winner of the 1942 Carnegie Medal and beautifully illustrated throughout by Denys Watkins-Pitchford with several black and white line drawings. The pictorial dust jacket is worn with pieces missing to the corners and to the top and base of the spine. Underneath lie grey cloth boards in good condition despite a minor blemish to the front. Previous booksellers small label to the rear paste down. Slight foxing to the top and fore-edge although the pages within are very clean. pp. 203. Overall a good copy. A charming story of four gnomes living on the banks of a river.
